What happened in the 1960s. What happened in the 1970s:
- The Jackson 5 sign with Motown and release "I Want You Back", reaching no 2 in the UK Charts.
- Trevor McDonald joins ITN as a reporter from the BBC World Service and becomes Britain's first black TV news reporter.
- Steve Biko, the leader of the South Africa's black consciousness movement, dies in police custody. His death causes outrage and his funeral is attended by more than 15,000 mourners.
- Viv Anderson becomes the first black footballer to play for England in an international tournament. He also plays for clubs including, Arsenal, Manchester United before becoming assistant manager at Middlesbrough.
- In 1979 the first Nike Air trainers and Sony Walkmans become available in stores. Other must have accessories include Kangol Hats, nameplate belt buckles, Adidas shell top trainers and hooded sweatshirts.
