"There are some real hot producers out there today but few who can boast totally changing the face of black music. By simply fusing hip hop and RnB Teddy Riley invented a new sound - New Jack Swing.
What a cool dude he was too, although beneath that exterior you know there's a hardened studio warrior. Watch this space for the next Teddy episode (Blackstreet album in 2006). He ain't finished yet!" Ronnie Herel

Teddy Riley started one of his first bands, Wreckx-N-Effect with his brothers when he was only a teenager, and later formed the legendary Guy in 1987 and Blackstreet in 1994.
Blackstreet's album, Another Level, sold over four million copies. The group also won a Grammy for No Diggity. Riley's production credits include Michael Jackson, Jay Z, Joe, Keith Sweat and Bobby Brown.

Def Jam
Iconic label: LaFace
Monday 24 October
"Antonio 'LA' Reid and Kenneth 'Babyface' Edmonds aka 'La Face' are one of the most prolific hit-making pairs in black music history! I'm sure Donnell Jones, Usher, TLC, Ciara & Outkast would agree - they are just some of the artists who've sold millions of albums on LA Face Records' roster. I look forward to finding out the secret of their success!"Ronnie Herel

Ronnie Herel looks at one of the most successful and largest RnB labels of the 80s and 90s, LAFace.

La Face was the Atlanta based record label founded in 1989 by Antonio M. "L.A." Reid and singer/songwriter Kenneth B. "Babyface" Edmonds as a joint venture with Arista.

As a label they have had over 30 number one records by artists including TLC, Toni Braxton and Usher. BMG (Arista's parent company) bought out Reid and Edmonds' 50 percent share of LaFace for $100 million, and the company relocated to Los Angeles as part of a restructuring deal in the year 2000.
