The more you want to do, the more processing power you need.

Recording audio takes a lot of processing power and a lot of disk space.

How to... Home recording basics
The speed of your disk, the speed of your processor and the amount of memory that you have will determine what sequencer software you run, how many tracks of audio you can record and play back, and how many plug-ins you can use simultaneously.

Some effects plug-ins use more processing power than others.

If you're planning to use a lot of complex effects, then you'll need a bad bwoy machine.

If you're not, then you can buy something older and a bit less powerful.
