Question and Answer
I am a songwriter with a big range of styles, hoping to pitch songs to signed and unsigned artists. As someone with less desire to be an artist myself, who should I send my demos to? And how do I make A&R people aware that I want to write for all the different genres?

If you don't want to be an artist and you're just into songwriting, really and truly you should be dealing with Music Publishers. Publishing companies like EMI... Rondor... that kind of thing.

Publishing A&R people are a different type of breed to record company A&Rs. They have a bit more time for you and less blag. You want to find yourself a directory of all the UK music publishing companies and send your stuff to them.

As for the distinction as to what kind of music you want to write, just write as many different songs as you can and send them in.

At the end of the day it's not about being genre specific or anything like that. A song's a song, and you can place it on any kind of beat. So I wouldn't worry too much about that.

Write yourself a good little tune, find yourself some publishing people and get it to them. But it doesn't hurt to place it with artists as well because you never know what could happen.
