Cinema tickets are beyond the means of many South Africans, and the news of the Oscar is taking time to get around.

"I don't watch movies much so I didn't know about this," says Khethani Dube, a newspaper vendor.

"But it's good � it will teach people not to do things tsotsis [criminals] do, like car hijacking and robbery."
