Wide scale

Townswomen's Guild concert in the nave of the cathedral.

The nave is 114 feet wide - the widest medieval nave in Britain.

The width results from the removal of medieval side chapels.

In Victorian times the nave pillars had to be replaced after they were cut into as part of a disastrous scheme to coat them with cement.
