Parts of the planned route loop deep into the West Bank. In some places Palestinian communities have been virtually enclosed with access to farms, employment and schools severely impaired.

Israel has made changes to the route. An 8km section near the town of Baka al-Sharqiya is being dismantled, and the route has been altered near Bethlehem.
