Crowds of people kept vigil in Franciszkanska Street in Krakow outside the house where Karol Wojtyla stayed while he was bishop of the town - before he became Pope.

Throughout the bitterly cold night men, women and children lit candles, said prayers, sang songs and remembered their Polish Pope.
