Fact files: Cruise missiles - hitting the target
Hitting the target
The missiles are up to 90% accurate

Once the missile hits its target it detonates a warhead of between 1,000 lb and 3,000 lb (453 - 1,360 kg) depending on the type.

The missile has been the US weapon of choice in the initial phases of international military incidents since 1991 when it was extensively used in the Gulf War.

Throughout the decade, the US deployed more and more ships capable of firing the Tomahawk cruise missile.

Only the long-range B-52 bomber can carry the bigger, air-launched version.

The US military claims the missile is 90% accurate.
