A man who smashed more than 40 city centre shop windows, dressed only in his underpants has been sent to a secure institution for psychiatric tests.
Andrew Roxberry, 30, caused damage estimated at up to 75,000 to shops and business premises in Queen Street - Cardiff's main shopping area - in February.
Wearing just a pair of black underpants, Roxberry attacked shop windows with a workman's shovel.
He has been in custody since being arrested and his case has been adjourned several times after no hospital bed could be found for him to undergo tests.
But on Monday, a judge at Cardiff Crown Court ordered him to be sent to a psychiatric hospital to be examined for mental illness.
Judge Roderick Denyer QC said: "I have written evidence that this man is suffering from mental illness, possibly schizophrenia, of a catatonic type.
"I am therefore going to make a hospital order requesting that this man be transferred to hospital for further assessment."
He told Roxberry: "I hope you can be transferred from prison to hospital where you can get treatment and be assessed."
Roxberry will spend 28 days at Cardiff's Whitchurch Hospital where he will undergo tests.

During his window smashing spree, Roxberry targeted 23 stores and businesses including Boots, Etam, Marks & Spencer, Thomas Cook, BHS, Abbey National, Next, McDonald's and Gap. It began after he threw a wine bottle at the window of a mobile phone shop and "got an appetite" for the sound of breaking glass.
The 30-year-old, from the Pentwyn area of the city, had earlier admitted 23 charges of criminal damage after being caught on CCTV and the court has heard how he has 217 previous offences.
He is due to appear at Cardiff crown Court on 8 September to be sentenced.
