Dr Richard Feachem, Executive Director of the Global Fund to Fight Aids, Tuberculosis and Malaria, answered questions on the battle against HIV during a special session as part of the BBC's season on Aids.
How much money is needed to fight Aids? How should it be collected and spent? Who gets priority? Richard Feachem is the Executive Director of the Global Fund to Fight Aids, Tuberculosis and Malaria.
More than $4.6 billion has been pledged to the fund, established three years ago to distribute money given by governments and private donors.
But with reports of a shortfall earlier this year, and a total of $47 billion needed worldwide over the next four years to fight Aids, campaigners say governments are not donating nearly enough.
Dr Feachem delivered the keynote address at the BBC World Service Trust HIV conference on Monday 24 November, 2003, as part of a special BBC season in the run-up to World Aids Day on 1 Dec.
