Patricia Hitchcock O'Connell unveiled the plaque on the Cromwell Road, west London, where Hitchcock and his wife Alma Reville lived for 13 years during his early career at the capital's Islington Studios.

"It is a wonderful. I am so grateful for having this wonderful ceremony for my father. It is an incredibly great honour," said Patricia.

The couple and their 10-year-old daughter moved to the US in 1939 - where his career took off and he became a Hollywood legend for films such as The Birds and Rear Window.

Although Hitchcock was famous for taking cameo roles in his films, Patricia appeared in some too, including Stage Fright and his most famous film, Psycho.

It is renowned for its celebrated shower scene featuring Janet Leigh as murder victim Marion Crane. It took seven days and more then 70 takes for just 45 seconds of film.

In other events to mark his centenary - falling appropriately on Friday 13th - Patricia also appeared at Christie's auctioneers to publicise a special auction of Hitchcock posters.

More than 100 posters spanning his career will go under the hammer on 13 September.

A programme of Hitchcock centenary events is also being held by the British Film Institute.

Events are also being held in the US to honour the director, who died in 1980. In Los Angeles, the Academy Of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences is holding a special evening to mark the centenary.
