The star played to 55,000 fans

Dressed in black with a white tie, the singer took to the stage and said to the 55,000 fans: "Let me entertain you."

At one point during the show, Williams wrapped himself in a Saltire and to the delight of fans, shouted: "Scotland I love you."

Mimicking the cover of his Escapology album, the star began the night by being lowered onto the stage hanging upside down by a wire.

With the help of British actor and musician Max Beesley, Williams performed the classic Mr Bojangles and hit song, She's the One.

'Dream come true'

At this point he picked up a young girl from the crowd and danced with her in his arms.

He performed all the fans' favourites including current hit single Come Undone, Feel, Millennium and Angels.

Kathleen Dowds, from Hamilton, was in tears for most of the performance.

The 40-year-old housewife said: "This has just been fantastic. I've never seen anything like it in my life, it's a dream come true."

Fan Angela Smith, a 21-year-old secretary from Leith, said: "It was spectacular to watch a man being lowered to the stage by his ankles, especially when that man was Robbie.
