Each specialist trust is given a star rating from three to zero and is assessed against a number of key targets and a range of indictors. The targets include A&E waits, financial management, hospital cleanliness and the number of patients waiting longer than the standard times for inpatient and outpatient procedures.
The indictors include clinical negligence, how the trust is tackling the MRSA superbug, hospital food, emergency readmissions after discharge, cancelled operations and breast cancer treatment.
