BBC News Online took a sneaky peek at Friday's All New Top of the Pops.
Lights, camera, action. With an air of trepidation, the audience geared up to clap and cheer on cue.
The crowd were gathered for a pre-recording session of Friday's hour-long special to celebrate the music show's relaunch.
Victoria Beckham appears on the first show |
They were promised a "very special guest" but first up were the Pop Idol finalists, who looked more overwhelmed by the occasion than the crowd itself. An amiable bunch, they even managed to match their outfits to the new 60s-inspired black and white set.
Some of the fans were also dressed to kill, determined to make it to the edge of the op art-style stage.
The plan paid off and they were soon shunted down to the front to add a little glamour to proceedings.
The floor manager told the crowd there would be more focus on the audience than in the old-style show - a return to the days of dancing round the DJ perhaps?
Some were a little reluctant to sing along and wave their arms in the air but only needed a little prodding from the crew to get into the swing of things.
The Pop Idol finalists mimed to their hearts' content and left smiling - but not before Kirsty Crawford, one of the first to be voted off the show, put her stiletto through the stage.
Kash is a presenter on MTV's Total Request Live |
The crowd's attention was quickly averted to another set where new presenter Tim Kash was introduced.
Kash is a relative unknown but already presents on the news side of MTV's Total Request Live.
The 22-year-old did not lack charisma although he seemed a little nervous.
Perhaps the "special guest" was the reason why - none other than Victoria Beckham.
The former Spice Girl was more down-to-earth than might be expected, chatting to the audience on several occasions.
Kash promised plenty of exclusives on the All New programme, most of which will go out live on Friday.
Whether the revamp is enough to entice viewers back and save the show remains to be seen.
All New Top of the Pops, hosted by Tim Kash, is on BBC One from 19.00 - 20.00 GMT on Friday, with an extra hour-long special following it on BBC Three.
