Javier Bardem

Javier Bardem has become the first Spanish actor to win an Oscar, taking home the best supporting actor award for his role as a remorseless assassin in No Country for Old Men.

His mother accompanied him to the ceremony and told him he would not win an Oscar.

Supporting Actress

Britain's Tilda Swinton earned the title of best supporting actress for her role as a lawyer in the Michael Clayton film.

She then told reporters that she had already decided that to give the Oscar award away to her agent as the statue reminded her of him.

Julie Christie

Julie Christie was nominated for best actress portraying a woman grappling with Alzheimer's in the film Away from Her.

She was seen as one of the favourites for the award and she was interviewed with the film's director on the red carpet.

Jason Reitman

Jason Reitman was nominated as best director for the film surprise hit Juno.

He said he did not care if he won for the film about a teenage girl who becomes pregnant, although he was not seen as a front-runner for the award.
