A massive rescue effort has failed to save a bottle-nosed whale which became stranded in the River Thames. The whale is normally found in deeper waters in the North Atlantic.
The British Divers Marine Life Rescue led the rescue operation, while a vet from the RSPCA monitored the animal's vital signs.
It was the first sighting of the endangered species in the Thames since records began nearly a century ago, but the animal died as it was taken east out of London.
