Strong winds caused chaos across parts of the West Midlands on Thursday with gusts of up to 70mph. A tree fell onto a car in north Warwickshire, crushing the roof to below shoulder height of the two occupants, and trapping a teenage girl.
She was freed by fire crews and suffered a suspected broken leg and spinal injuries.
Heavy rain has meant flood barriers are up along the River Severn with Bewdley Bridge due to close in the evening.
The bridge will close as flood barriers on the Wribbenhall side of the Severn are raised for the first time.
Horizontal rain
The accident in Warwickshire took place on Ashby Road in No Mans Heath.
Paramedic Neil Vann said high winds and "horizontal rain" made it a difficult incident to deal with, particularly when trying to land the helicopter.
A 22-year-old Tamworth man, a passenger in the car, was rescued by passers by and treated for cuts and a broken finger.
The 17-year-old driver was trapped under the tree for 45 minutes before being cut free.
Cars damaged
In a separate incident in Warwickshire a woman was taken to hospital after crashing as swerved to avoid a falling tree in Newbold Road in Rugby.
Several trees were brought down in the Wyre Forest area of Worcestershire blocking a number of roads.
Trees were brought down along the A450 at Blakeshall Lane in Wolverley and the A442 at Shatterford causing disruption to traffic.
Another large tree blew down in Whinchat Grove, Spennells in Kidderminster, damaging three cars and a garage.
The Environment Agency has issued flood warnings in 12 areas for the River Severn and the River Avon.
In Shrewsbury, Frankwell and St Julian's car parks were closed in case of flooding from the River Severn.
The Met Office has said the winds will slowly die down.
