Walkers are being urged to make sure they are dressed appropriately and have the right equipment when they go out in the Lake District fells. The appeal comes after 24 members of the Langdale and Ambleside mountain rescue team spent four-and-a-half hours searching for a couple on Sunday.
They had got into difficulties on Silver Howe, in Langdale.
A 25-year-old diabetic had collapsed two kilometres away from the location the rescuers had been given.
She was wearing high-heeled shoes and a 26-year-old man was also not wearing appropriate shoes.
Both were wearing jeans and did not have any waterproofs. They had no map or compass.
The rescue team said the couple were lucky to have been found because they would not have survived the night.
Last week, the team was called out to two other incidents in which the walkers were not carrying the necessary equipment.
