Hope fades for man in city river
River search
The search will resume on Sunday morning
Police say hopes of finding a man who fell into the River Aire in Bradford during high water levels are fading.

Officers were called to Apperley Bridge after members of the public saw a man struggling in the water.

Divers and the West Yorkshire Police helicopter were involved in the search but were unable to reach the man.

A police spokesman said rescue efforts were hampered due to a deluge of water which was flowing along the river due to heavy rain on Saturday.

He said a dinghy had been deployed to help the man, but the water carried him away from the rescuers.

"The likelihood of the man being found is fading," he said.

The spokesman added that it is was a "tragic event" but officers would resume a search of the riverbank on Sunday morning.
