Workers and shoppers in Slough will be able to help the environment in their lunch break by putting their rubbish in new recycling dustbins. The new bins for cans, plastic bottles and newspapers are being given a trial in the High Street and at the station.
The council hopes the dustbins, which are being placed next to ordinary bins, will help reduce landfill waste.
If many people use the recycling points, the council plans to install more elsewhere in the Berkshire town.
Nigel Dicker, head of council environmental services, added: "Street litter is often overlooked as a potential way of recycling more waste.
"If people start using the new bins, we will be able to recycle some of the 800 tonnes of litter we collect from the town's bins every year, and save it going to landfill."
