Ailing resort unveils master plan
How consultants think the new Blackpool will look
New parks and water features are among the plans
Plans have been unveiled for the revival of one of the UK's most famous seaside resorts.

Up to 20,000 jobs could be created as part of the "masterplan" to update Blackpool's image.

Two American-based consultants were hired to create a vision for turning the ailing resort into a "world class visitor destination".

Their ideas, which include ambitious schemes for large casino hotels, were outlined to the borough's council on Wednesday evening.

They gambling plans are reliant on the government relaxing laws restricting the number of casinos allowed in one place.

Tropical attraction

The scheme - which would be implemented over the next 20 years - was unanimously approved by councillors and will now go to public consultation.

Seven areas of the town are to be redeveloped, including the main road entrance from the M55, the seafront Golden Mile, areas around the Pleasure Beach, the town centre and railway station.

Schemes proposed include a new conference centre, several inter-connected hotel casinos, a glass-covered tropical attraction and a new aquarium.

New town parks and landscaping are also planned.
