| Friday, 31 January, 2003, 18:00 GMT Hundreds re-called for breast x-rays ![]() Women will be recalled for screening A hospital is re-calling more than 200 women following concerns about their breast x-rays. The Northern Lincolnshire and Goole Hospitals NHS Trust said the problem was raised following quality control checks on mammograms. It means 221 women who were seen at Scunthorpe Hospital are being re-called for further tests. The tests have already been carried out on 60 women and the rest will receive letters and phone calls. Independent review Special clinics will be held to deal with the re-calls during the next two weeks. The concerns arose after routine checks on mammograms led to health officials disagreeing with the original diagnosis in one case. As a result, the mammograms of 3,200 women taken by one radiologist over the past five years were sent for an independent review. Concerns were raised by 221 of those breast x-rays. A trust spokesman said: "In the majority of cases the original mammogram had revealed a shadow or movement on them. "What should have happened is that the x-ray should have been re-taken but wasn't." The trust has also apologised for any anxiety that has been caused, and said the double-checking was a precautionary measure. | See also: 08 Dec 02 | England 28 Nov 02 | Health 14 Nov 02 | Health Internet links: The BBC is not responsible for the content of external internet sites Top England stories now: Links to more England stories are at the foot of the page. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
