A dozen new classrooms could be built at a York school in an effort to tackle overcrowding.

Proposals for the �3.5m project at Fulford School have been submitted to the City of York Council.

About 1,300 pupils attend Fulford School - a figure which is almost 200 more than the school's buildings can comfortably hold.

Now, in an attempt to ease the overcrowding, and provide a more comfortable teaching and learning environment, plans have been put forward to build a new block.

If councillors aprove the plan it would contain 14 new classrooms, two new science labs and would also see the existing design and technology block being refurbushed.

The project, however, would not address all of the school's problems as it does not have a sports hall and pupils are having to travel to the University of York to use the sports facilities.
