| Friday, 10 January, 2003, 09:39 GMT Parents asked over schools closures ![]() Several schools could be closed Several primary schools in Bristol could close or be merged as part of a massive re-organisation. Officials want to cut down on the numbers of half-empty classrooms in schools across the city. Parents are to be given the chance to have their say on the proposals ahead of any major changes which would begin next September. Bristol City Council is holding a series of public meetings to ask residents what they think are the priorities for primary schools. Public consultation Parents will also be sent an information leaflet about the plans and asked to fill in a questionnaire. The public consultation runs until 21 February when the council will put together a long-term strategy. Peter Hammond, Deputy Leader of Bristol City Council, with responsibility for Education and Lifelong Learning, said: "Giving our young people the education they deserve is the city council's top priority. "To make this review a success we will look carefully at changes in population and respond to the needs of local communities. "Any changes will be made efficiently and cost-effectively, but to make sure we get this right we really need to hear the views of local people. "By giving us their thoughts and ideas we can work together on a primary review plan that will really make a difference for the future." | See also: 03 Dec 02 | England 21 Nov 02 | England 16 Jul 02 | England 05 Jul 02 | England 14 Feb 02 | England Internet links: The BBC is not responsible for the content of external internet sites Top England stories now: Links to more England stories are at the foot of the page. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
