Learning Trust chief Alan Wood promises radical change

Hackney in London - whose education service is now being run by a trust - finds itself at the bottom of this year's primary school results tables.

It has fallen four places in a year, to come below all the other 149 local education authorities (LEAs).

Its schools averaged 197.3 points out of 300 in the proportion of youngsters achieving the expected level in their national curriculum tests, down from more than 208 last year.

At the top - apart from the tiny City of London LEA which has only one school - is Richmond upon Thames, with a performance more than two points higher than last year: 263.4.

The second column of figures shows the average of the new "value added" measure their schools achieved.
