The law and legal risks

Broadcasting is fraught with legal risks, such as defamation or contempt, which can affect any area of programming.

Legal problems may arise not just with what the BBC broadcasts but with how programmes are made.

The BBC's team of programme lawyers needs to be consulted at the earliest possible stage about programmes that may run legal risks.
