Using archive material

Library material used to illustrate a current issue or event must be clearly labelled if there is any danger that using material from one event to illustrate another could mislead the audience.

The BBC does not normally use extracts from video or audio news releases if programme makers can gather the material themselves.

The use of material from such releases must be for sound editorial reasons, and must be clearly labelled on air.
