Listen to the programme
MEET THE GUESTS Chen Jian, visiting Professor of History and International Affairs at the LSE, discusses The China Challenge and how a long-held psychological mind-set might impede that country's development in the 21st century. Jamaican-born Yvonne Brewster is one of the UK's most respected theatre directors. After setting up Jamaica's first theatre group, she moved to England and became one of the country's first black playwrights. She discusses the potent relationship between actors and audiences. Professor Armand Leroi, explains why Darwin's theory of natural selection poses more questions than it does solutions. While Armand is the first to admit Darwin's theory of evolution is beguiling, simple, powerful and manifestly true, it is also, he argues, profoundly incomplete. Listen to the 60 Second Idea To Change The WorldEach week one guest presents an idea to enhance the world. This week it's the turn of Yvonne Brewster. To read more about the 60 Second Idea visit BBC News Online. Your comments... Darwin's theory has predicted future evolutionary traits. Peter and Rosemary Grant predicted that Ground Finch beak size on Daphne Major would increase a certain fraction of a mm in a certain number of years due to known stresses in their food sources. (The beak would need to increase to crack bigger seeds.) When those years past and Peter and Rosemary measured the beak size of the population, their prediction was spot on. Several similar predictions have been done since. Michael Ohio,USA Perhaps you could ask Mr. Rosenthal why I am wrong to think that every event is the consequence of all previoius events, and that therefore uncertainty is as illusory as free will. James Paris, France I always enjoy listening to the Forum. Regarding Darwin, there is a basic flow. It has never been proven that by the interaction of molecules Life is produced. This is impossible!
