Outlook Club founder Israel Ambe Ayongwa

After hearing the Outlook reports from Bangladesh, part of the BBC World Service ‘Taking the Temperature’ series, the Club decided to have a discussion about climate change.

Kicking off debate was Israel, the club's founder.

Israel started by saying how he thought that the idea of climate change was very pertinent in society but he felt that:

“We, to a very large extent ....are not the cause of this climate change but yet we feel the impact."

"I think that it is very important to us to send a message to those who might be the ones causing a change so they might refrain from some of those activities which are causing this change.”

Club member Delphine disagreed with Israel saying

“To me everybody in one way or another contributes to climate change."

As the discussion progressed the club discussed the visible impact of climate change; for example, the shrinking of the Lake Chad Basin in northern Cameroon, landslides and the weather feeling hotter.

Tree planting was seen as a good way that people could help the environment, on a local level. Indeed some members of the Outlook club already planted trees.

Delphine added that she used energy saving devices, switched off appliances and tried to travel on foot or via bus or bike.
