Kibera in Nairobi is Africa's biggest slum.

It's a place of rusted tin shacks and open sewers that is home to around one million people.

Half an acre of it is also an organic farm which was set up last year, and the farmers are reformed criminals.

While western consumers are giving up luxuries like organic food as the credit crunch bites, these farmers are making a profit selling to the local residents, some of whom spend most of their wage to get organic vegetables.

The World Today's Pascale Harter visited the farm to find out why.
