This week, Jackie and Amber hear from Nobel Prize winner Muhammad Yunus about the concept of 'social business'. Why does he think this is a more effective way of fighting poverty than charity?

This week's question: An entrepreneur - someone who starts new business or business deals to make money. The word entrepreneur comes from the French verb "entreprendre". What does this mean in English?

to maximise profits
to make as much money as possible
Example: Most companies aim to maximise profit.

social benefit
for the good of people or communities, perhaps through activities such as fighting poverty, helping war victims etc.
Example: We must make sure this plan has real social benefit.

businesses whose goal is to maximise social benefit rather than maximise profit for owners etc.

a charity
an organistation that gives money or help to people in need
Example: This charity helps people who are affected by cancer.

a donation
something (especially money) that you give to an organisation or person to help them
Example: She made a huge donation to the charity

a donor
someone who makes a donation
Example: We had several major donors to this project.

to recycle
to use again and again

microcredit
small loans (money lent) made to people who wouldn't usually be lent money because they're unemployed, living in poverty etc.
Example: He thinks the expansion of the airport is a good thing.

to cover costs
to pay for the cost of money spent on something
Example: Airlines are making tickets more expensive to cover the cost of rising fuel prices.
