- Young Nigerian's powerful new novel

Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie

In this edition, we celebrate the achievements of the young Nigerian writer, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie.

Chimamanda is only 28 years old but she is already being described by critics as:

'a writer wise beyond her years'.

The great African novelist, Chinua Achebe, told Chimamanda's editor in New York:

'We do not usually associate wisdom with beginners, but here is a new writer endowed with the gift of ancient storytellers'.

Chimamanda's first novel, Purple Hibiscus, won the Commonwealth Writers' Best First Book Prize.

In the programme, Chimamanda talks us through her new novel, Half of a Yellow Sun. The book is set in Nigeria during the 1960s and it is a powerful and moving story of civil war.
