The Indian Cricket Board has suspended the national team's tour of Australia after the bowler Harbhajan Singh was banned for three matches. Harbhajan was accused by a referee of calling a black Australian player, Andrew Symonds, a monkey. He denies this and will appeal. From Sydney here's Nick Bryant. It soon became clear that India's tour of Australia was in doubt when the players sat on their team bus for two hours outside their hotel in Sydney, and didn't start their journey to Canberra, where their next match is due to be played. The Indian board realises the game of cricket is paramount, read the statement. But so too is the honour of the Indian team and for that matter, every Indian. It described the allegation against Harbhajan Singh as blatantly false, and an unfair slur. This is one of the biggest controversies to hit Australian cricket since the 'body line' series of the 1930s. Almost inevitably it's being called 'Bolly line'. was in doubt pending appeal against Tests alleged racism paramount allegation blatantly false slur inevitably | LATEST STORIES 27 May, 2011 Destruction of smallpox virus delayed 25 May, 2011 Micro-finance 'misused and abused' 20 May, 2011 Lonely planets 18 May, 2011 Germany to invest in more electric cars 16 May, 2011 Argentina builds a tower of books Other Stories | |||||||||||
