| | | The security van driver, a twenty-three year old French man, is reported by police to have threatened the guard who was accompanying him at gunpoint. The driver was apparently then joined by at least two other accomplices.
The vehicle was driven to an underground garage where, say police, the robbers transferred four strong boxes full of cash into a getaway car.
The gang left the security van guard handcuffed inside the vehicle. He later raised the alarm. A wide police search has so far uncovered no clues as to how or where the gang fled.
Apart from the French man, it is thought other foreigners could have been involved. The police have not revealed which cash transport firm was involved.
The cash stolen was worth around three times as much as the previous biggest robbery in Germany in 1997.
