| | | Dido may have earned £12m last year, but that's nothing compared to Britain's biggest earners in 2001 - U2 and The Beatles. The Beatles banked £65m last year, mostly due to sales of their album '1', while Irish rockers U2 are £60m richer because of a big-selling album and a huge world tour.
Dido's 8.6m album sales put her in fifth place in the survey carried out by Heat magazine. Most of the top 10 are from days gone by, with David Gray the only other newish artist to find a place, in at nine with £8m.
The reason older stars make more money is because they have made loads of albums during their lengthy careers. Even though they sell fewer copies of a single album, the amount they make from all the others means they earn loads of money every year, sometimes without doing any work at all!
