Friday 2nd February

Publication of a United Nations report on global warming which says that it's overwhelmingly likely that human activity is to blame, prompted Momolu Pewu to write from Liberia.

Environmental analysts and scientists warn us everyday that the earth is getting hotter due to the emission of certain gases into the atmosphere.

We continue to overlook these warnings because we are not feeling the direct effects right now, but let us consider the future generations and put mechanisms in place that will save the future of mankind.

The international community must take this issue seriously and act now.

Thursday 1st January

Zolu Gobah from Liberia has a complaint over the visit today of the Chinese President Hu Jintao to his country.

The arrival of President Hu in Monrovia has created total suffering and panic for poor Liberians dwelling in the slum areas outside Monrovia.

Heavily armed officers of the United Nations mission here have been seen early this morning in our slum carrying rifles and moving about in tanks as if our communities were under imminent threat from rebel forces.

My mother was quick to close her door and asked me whether the former President Charles Taylor had escaped from prison in the Hague!

I hope and pray that the Chinese leader doesn't visit us again because we are sleeping on empty stomachs because of him.

Wednesday 31st January

Abubakar Fofana a Liberian refugee in Guinea heard some good news

I was very happy to hear that the Chinese president has included my country, Liberia, on his African tour.

China seems to now be playing the role the United States has failed to play in Liberia.

America always played a 'double-standard' role where it's personal interests always superseded it's humanitarian aims.

President Hu, I urge you to stand firm to your policy of economic and political intervention on a dying continent, because I know the U.S will only serve to undermine your good role.

Monday 29th January

Kwaku Antwi-Boasiako is thrilled that Ghana has been given the AU chair.

Yes, yes, yes! I feel great and relieved that Ghana has been chosen to chair the AU instead of Sudan.

African heads of state have clearly demonstrated that the days when dictators whose security forces murdered, imprisoned and exiled their own people will not be honoured with these leadership positions.
