The average Sierra Leonean family has seen a marked drop in living standards - even since the end of the country's civil war in 2002.

That notwithstanding, some hardworking families have been striving not to allow the near-collapse of the national infrastructure to hold them to ransom.

Our reporter in Freetown, Umaru Fofana, spent time with one family to find out how they keep body and soul together in the hard times.
