Kenya hangs up on telecom monopoly
Nairobi skyline
A new company has been licenced in Kenya to offer telephone landline services and so become the country's second national operator.

The licence awarded to VTEL-holdings brings to an end the monopoly held by the state-owned Telkom Kenya, and the poor services associated with the business.

VTEL-holdings paid close to US$170 million for the right to operate in the Kenyan telecom market.

Caroline Karobia went to find out what the impact of a second landline provider in the market will be and she sent this report.
