Given its natural beauty the city of Cape Town has always been one of South Africa's most popular tourist destinations. While most foreign visitors come from the traditional markets of Europe and America, an increasing number of Africans are also visiting the city. Since the end of Apartheid in 1994, the city's tourism industry has however, still remained largely white-owned despite government efforts to ease access for black operators through its Black Economic Empowerment programme.
