Petty traders including street hawkers and artisans in Ghana thought the outlook was improving when the government recently announced a 50 million dollar micro loan scheme to make cheap credit available to these types of small scale business. However the much-vaunted initiative has not gone as well as hoped and critics are criticising the government for making promises it is not ready to keep.
