It's been a slow, tortuous journey for Guinea which is now back on the path to political stability.

The military junta has just appointed Jean-Marie Doré, a veteran civilian opposition leader as prime minister.

It's a crucial step that sets the stage for the military to cede power to civilians in elections within the next six months.

The appointment came as General Sekouba Konate, who persuaded junta chief Captain Moussa Dadis Camara to step aside and accept a transition to civilian rule, returned to Conakry amid extremely tight security.

So who's the man taking up the job of prime minister?
