It should have happened on the 9th of this month but the organisers saw it fit to postpone celebrations till today marking the 5th anniversary of Sudan's Comprehensive Peace Agreement between north and south Sudan.
That deal brought to an end decades of war, with both sides agreeing to hold national elections and a referendum to determine whether the south should become independent.
So why were the official celebrations delayed and why are they being held in Yambio?
