Over the past two decades the slogan "don't die of ignorance" has become popular in the campaign against the spread of HIV.

Now Kenyan health authorities are taking matters a little further.

They've embarked on a 3-week HIV testing and counselling campaign targeting about 1 million Kenyans.

The country's National AIDS/STD Control Programme estimates that out of nearly 1.4 million people believed to be HIV positive in Kenya, only about a third know their status.

Focus on Africa's Odhiambo Joseph witnessed the launch of the exercise in Nairobi.
