The European Union has announced what could be seen as an early Christmas present to Nigeria - one billion dollars in aid.
The money, from the EU's development fund, will be for targetting areas such as conflict resolution and tackling corruption.
Nigeria scored poorly in a Transparency International report released earlier this week, being named as one of the continent's most corrupt countries.
The BBC's Jonny Hogg spoke to John Clancy, the EU Commission spokesman for development and humanitarian aid.
