In Malawi, citizens are embroiled in a debate over whether President Bingu wa Mutharika is showing an inordinate amount of support for his ethnic group, the Lomwe.
He has just presided over the first anniversary celebrations of the formation of the Mulakho wa Alomwe, a non governmental organisation he founded to promote the culture and traditions of his people.
But critics say a sitting president should not mingle too much with his tribesmen.
