There has been uproar in Senegal after it was confirmed that President Abdullahi Wade gave a suitcase full of cash to the outgoing country representative of the International Monetary Fund, as a parting gift.

When the news of the affair was first leaked by the press some weeks ago, the Senegalese government initially denied giving any money to the IMF officer, Alex Segura.

The IMF says the money was returned two weeks later.

From the Senegalese capital Dakar, this report is by the BBC's Tidiane Sy.
