Nigeriens are set to cast their ballots in an election that will help the country set up a new parliament following the dissolution of the last one in August by President Mamadou Tandja.

Mr. Tandja dissolved the legislative body after it voted against his proposed referendum on an extra 3 years in power.

The opposition has opted for a boycott of this election which it said was illegal.
