A BBC Network Africa investigation has found that people living in Kenya's politically volatile Rift Valley Province are arming themselves ahead of general elections in 2012.
After the December 2007 poll, violence erupted and more than 1,300 people lost their lives.
Now there are serious fears that local communities are preparing for another fight and this time moving from traditional weapons such as spears and arrows to automatic machine guns.
Since July this year, the BBC Network Africa's Wanyama wa Chebusiri has been looking into the issue. His special report begins near Nakuru, where he spoke to a member of the Kikuyu community.
