Guinea today marks 51 years of independence from France.
But it looks like this year's anniversary will be short of champagne and celebration.
It will be tempered by tension following a violent crackdown on opposition supporters by the military earlier this week.
The violence left over 150 people dead.
Well the leader of the military junta Captain Moussa Dadis Camara has been offering an olive branch to the opposition - which has so far been lukewarm at best with it's response.
